Roquetas de Mar has hosted the IV Andalusian Meeting of Road Safety Education in which experts from different parts of the country and professionals in this field have had the opportunity to analyze the future challenges of mobility. The Mayor of Roquetas de Mar, Gabriel Amat, inaugurated the event accompanied by Luis Carlos Rodríguez León, Road Safety Prosecutor for Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla, the President of the Road Safety Commission of the Congress of Deputies, Juan José Matarí, the President of Astevan and the State Federation Fetevi, Eduardo Barrero, and Josep María Vallés, President of the Smart Baby Foundation.
The celebration of this event in Roquetas de Mar is a recognition of the work that has been carried out for more than 25 years by the Road Safety Education Office of the City Council. The mayor, Gabriel Amat, has highlighted the importance of this service taking into account the multicultural nature of the municipality, which has more than 100,000 inhabitants and where 110 different nationalities live together. Amat stressed the importance of «schoolchildren learning road safety education from an early age» in order to guarantee, between all of us, road safety throughout the municipality. He also pointed out that the Road Safety Education Office has been carrying out very important work in all schools for years and stressed that «sometimes it is the children themselves who help their parents to recognise the regulations on traffic and road safety». The mayor assures that although this office has received many awards, «the best reward is the education of schoolchildren».
For his part, the President of the Road Safety Commission of the Congress of Deputies, Juan José Matarí, thanked the Roquetas Town Council for the work it is doing to help reduce road accidents. Matarí stressed the importance of «integrating» this subject into the education system and recalled that 90 percent of accidents are due to a human factor.

The Chief Prosecutor for Road Safety in Andalusia, Luis Carlos Rodríguez, pointed out the commitment shown by Roquetas Town Council in setting up training activities which help citizens to acquire values and knowledge in such important matters as road safety education. The Chief Prosecutor emphasises that «part of the Local Police’s help is to help citizens and it is an example for the rest of the town councils».
The president of the Smart Baby Foundation, Josep María Vallés, assures that this year, due to the circumstances, has demonstrated more than ever the effort and will of institutions such as the Roquetas Town Council, through its Road Safety Education Office, to continue working in the service of society. Finally, the president of Astevan and the State Federation Fetevi, Eduardo Barrero, described the organisation of this meeting in Roquetas de Mar as a «success» despite the current circumstances and made it clear that in terms of vital education «we are all important to prevent accidents and loss of life.
