200 runners take part in the Veratense event of the Circuito de Carreras Populares (Popular Races Circuit).
The Circuito de Carreras Populares de la Diputación de Almería held its most ‘bullfighting’ event yesterday afternoon. The Bullring of Vera became the start and finish line of a race that gathered 200 runners, of all categories, coming from all over the province.
The Circuit has crossed in Vera the halfway point of a Circuit that, this year, has 16 races that have covered the regions of Poniente, Alpujarra, Bajo Andarax, Nacimiento, Levante and Almanzora. Ahmed Oulisman and Estefanía Gázquez of the Sayma Club have been proclaimed the absolute winners of this race, consolidating their leadership since Rioja hosted the first of the circuit’s competitions.
The Carrera Popular de Vera started at 19.00 hours with an anti-covid protocol and very exhaustive measures. A total of 200 runners took part in the Senior, Master, Under 20, A, B, C, D, E, F, G and Absolute categories.
The 250 registrations for the Circuit are still sold out, which shows the interest in this event organised by the Provincial Council. The runners who have run out of places can sign up for the 50 free places to participate in each of the races.
The urban course has a route of just over 6 kilometres of low difficulty and only runs on asphalt and through the bullring of the bullring in Veratense. The pace has been very high at the head of the race despite the heat with which the participants have struggled. Once again, sports clubs from the provinces of Almería, Granada, Jaén, Alicante and Murcia gathered together.
The deputy of Sports, José Antonio García, the deputy mayor of Vera, Alfonso García, have given the start and have been responsible for delivering the trophies to the winners.
Garcia stressed that “this is one of the star circuits of the Provincial Council, we reached the halfway point in this season and thanks to the reception by the runners and the councils themselves I am sure it will continue to grow.
In this sense, the deputy highlighted “the efforts of the Vera Town Council to make it a sporting city that organises top level events and we will accompany them in all the challenges they take on in terms of sport”.
The next race will take place in Bédar on 11th September, where the Circuit will stop for the first time with a race that will surprise the participants.
