The month of July saw an increase of tourists in regulated accommodation of 70 percent compared to the same month in 2020, reaching 177,509 travellers, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. This is the third highest number of travellers in the historical series for this month, behind only 2019 and 2017.
Regarding the results for August, the hotels on the Costa Cálida reached an occupancy rate of 86 percent, 17 points higher than in July and 30 points higher than the same month last year. According to the breakdown by areas, the Mar Menor and La Manga reached an occupancy rate of 86 and 87 percent, respectively, and Águilas 87 percent, while Mazarrón, with 90 percent, was the area with the highest tourist occupancy rate on the Costa Cálida in its hotels during that month.
The upturn in occupancy in August extended to all types of accommodation, with campsites at 86 percent occupancy and rural houses at 85 percent, reaching historic figures even higher than before the pandemic.
