The Local Police of Huércal-Overa is carrying out a special campaign of surveillance and control of waste in the municipality with the aim of preventing it from being deposited in unauthorised places, and thus avoiding both health problems and a bad image of the municipality.
It should be noted that the agents have already applied sanctions to some residents for throwing waste in places that are not authorised for it, a practice that unfortunately is more common than it seems. The economic sanctions that are included in the municipal ordinance of Police, Good Governance and Citizen Coexistence in Huércal-Overa include the prohibition of “throwing, dumping or depositing rubbish, water, liquids, earth, debris, detritus, bottles or other types of containers, as well as paper or waste of any kind, both in public or communal spaces and in private spaces” on public roads and spaces of common public or private use. These types of actions carry financial penalties ranging from 700 euros for a minor offence to 3,000 euros for a very serious offence.
From the Town Hall, the councillor for Services, Blas Sánchez, reminds us that in our municipality we have a clean point where different types of waste can be deposited, located in the municipal warehouse next to the cemetery. It is open from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:00 and Saturdays from 8:00 to 15:00. Here the residents can deposit their waste in a controlled manner, helping us to protect the environment and the image of our municipality”. It is unfortunate that there are people who leave waste in places such as streams or taking advantage of the proximity of other containers so from the Consistory alludes to the cooperation of citizens so that this does not happen.
