The new section is designed to meet a medium-term demand of 38,000 vehicles per day, it is 7 kilometres long, to which a further 2.5 kilometres of branch lines must be added, and the total cost of the work is 216 million euros.
As well as relieving summer congestion in Puerto de la Cadena, it will put an end to the so-called ‘autovía del bancal’, as it will connect with the RM-1, a road linking Zeneta to San Javier which is in very poor condition. Users will save about 15 minutes travelling from the centre of Murcia to San Javier, and link to Pilar de la Horadada, Campoamor and Torrevieja, compared to the current route.
