The territorial delegate of Tourism of the Junta in Almería, Vicente García Egea, has visited Purchena to learn about the resources and tourism projects of this town in the Almanzora Valley and hold a meeting with its mayor, Juan Miguel Tortosa, with whom he has discussed the various measures that the Regional Ministry makes available to municipalities.
García Egea highlighted the various attractions of the town, “which is located at the foot of the Sierra de los Filabres, and whose landscape full of forests that climb towards the mountains, contrasts with the rest of the municipalities in the region. We are talking about a unique natural environment that is in itself a lure to attract visitors”.
To this, said the regional head, “we must add heritage resources in which its Moorish past can be seen”. Among the places that García Egea has visited are the Water Tower, the Alcazaba, the Municipal Museum of Islamic Archaeology and the Church of San Ginés.
“All this means that Purchena has a varied and ideal offer to receive visitors,” said the delegate who has detailed to the local councillor some of the measures that “from the Ministry led by Juan Marín are available to localities to develop new tourism projects to complement and strengthen its offer.
Thus, he has referred to the lines of subsidy, which in the current call provides for an investment of more than 21.5 million euros, and in which Purchena has competed with various projects. “Tourism is a strategic sector and as such we approach it from the Regional Ministry. It is a key industry for our economy and employment and helps to fix the population to the territory, therefore, among other measures, these amounts are put in charge for the municipalities, so they can develop actions that contribute to boost tourism in their territories”.
In the same way, he has valued the actions initiated by the Consistory that are carried out “in a coordinated manner” with tourism entrepreneurs in the region. “They are carrying out very interesting initiatives that we wanted to put in value and help from the Delegation in everything you tell us and you may need,” said the delegate, who recalled the recent approval of the META 2027 Plan, which includes lines of funding of over 700 million euros for projects throughout Andalusia.
The representative of the Junta de Andalucía wished the Mayor of Purchenero to continue with this line of promotion of sustainable tourism through the promotion of its heritage and environmental values, with attractions “that articulate and unite” the regional territory, such as the Greenway that crosses the town and that makes up a path from the old railway lines that transported mining products from the region to Garrucha.
