The Directorate General for the Environment of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has communicated the activation of the preventive level 1 established in the framework protocol for pollution episodes in the Mar Menor coastline, as the daily average of 50 micrograms per cubic metre of air of suspended particles was exceeded yesterday, Saturday.
Specifically, the measuring station set up in La Aljorra recorded a 24-hour average value of 51 micrograms.
The incidence coincides with the intrusion of dust masses of African origin over the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula on 25, 26 and 27 September, with concentrations that can vary between 10 and 80 micrograms and with the possibility of deposition of dry dust in this area.
In view of this situation, the Department of the Environment recalls the usual advice for this preventive phase, such as: the use of public transport as a substitute for the use of private vehicles; driving efficiently if necessary and avoiding outdoor activities that require great physical effort.
It is also advisable not to carry out work on building sites or ploughing in rural areas, and the burning of stubble is prohibited.
