Distractions while driving continue to be the most recurrent factor in traffic accidents in Spain, being present in 31% of fatal accidents in 2020. This means that a total of 319 fatal accidents that occurred last year were caused by a distraction. As we announced last May, in November 2020, the Director General of Traffic, Pere Navarro, declared during a digital meeting that if the mobile phone “is on the dashboard, it would not be subject to a fine, as long as an approved holder is used for it and it is not manipulated while driving”. So to avoid a fine for handling a mobile phone in the car, it is sufficient to carry it correctly in an approved holder and not to pick it up or use it at any time, unless you stop the vehicle in a safe area.
