On Sunday 26 September, hundreds of pilgrims came to the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of the Saliente to celebrate the feast of St. Michael the Archangel, Angelic Protector of the Roel.
A DAY MARKED BY FERVOUR AND TRADITIONAL FOLKLORE
On a splendid morning the pilgrims gathered at the Roel to the sound of the traditional music of the Cuadrilla del Saliente which enlivened the day. The ringing of the bells announced the solemn Mass offered by the Cuadrilla de Ánimas del Saliente in suffrage for the cuadrillero Antonio «el Ropero». The Rector of the Sanctuary recalled in his homily the invitation of Pope Francis to have recourse to St. Michael to protect us from evil in these times of pandemic.
THE ARCHANGEL RETURNED TO THE PROCESSION THROUGH THE SALIENTE
After the liturgical ceremony, the Angelic Protector was carried in procession along the esplanade of the Sanctuary amidst the cheers of the pilgrims and the joyful songs of the Cuadrilla. In front of the Almanzora Valley the procession stopped for the recitation of the prayer to the Archangel.
After the procession, the pilgrims made their way to the Cloister where the traditional feast of dried figs and aniseed began, accompanied by the music of the Cuadrilla, who invited those present to dance.
