It could be said that Camposol in Mazarrón is a small city of about 4,000 houses, covering millions of metres, with about 10,000 residents during the Summer. Most of the residents in the urbanization are British, with around 30 different nationalities. The problem is that its an irregular city from a planning point of view.
The resident’s association “Camposol Residents Association”, explains that the vast majority of their members bought their house in good faith more than ten years ago, some almost more than twenty years ago, without knowing the problems that they were going to encounter. They say that now they are involved in a terrible nightmare with no apparent end, with homes located in floodplain areas, with deficient infrastructure, where they are asked to pay for infrastructure out of their pocket despite paying property taxes, with inadequate public services, and without a trace of first occupancy licenses for their homes. They inform us that some of the houses are not even for residential use, but for tourist use.
About 3 years ago, the Regional Assembly approved a proposal aimed at ending this nightmare. This was approved on March 22, 2018 and was published in the official bulletin of the Murcia assembly. The proposal declared the following: “It is not possible to solve the very serious problems created for the almost five thousand inhabitants of the Camposol urbanization, if there is not a joint and manifest will of all the administrations to do so. For this reason, we recommend the creation of a working party in which Mazarrón City Council, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia and the Segura Hydrographic Confederation meet to plan, coordinate and execute the necessary measures to promptly revert the current situation to one of legality. “
Despite the time that has elapsed, the working party has not been convened. The residents ask that it is convened urgently and that it includes them as affected parties, given that they believe that it should be transparent and consider that solutions cannot be adopted behind the backs of those affected. In their meetings with the political groups in the Assembly they asked for their support to insist to the regional government that this should be done as soon as possible.
They say that they are hopeful after their meetings, as they were well received and they state that all the groups showed a constructive spirit. Those affected believe that this working party needs to be convened quickly. To this end they are going to request a meeting with the president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, and they are planning a meeting with Mazarrón council next week. They convey to us their wish that they can soon wake up from their nightmare.
