The Purchena Town Council has celebrated the new achievement of Antonio Francisco García Rubio by proclaiming himself champion of Spain Paratriathlon PTS5 in the trials held in Pontevedra. “For us it is very special that such an ambassador of our land, who has become an example of achievement for the young people of our town, is rewarded for the effort we have witnessed and which we support from the Town Hall with the modest sponsorship we can afford and from which we know we receive much more return than the investment we make,” says Juan Miguel Tortosa Conchillo, mayor of the town.
García Rubio (Purchena 1996) already has a gold medal in the Spanish Paratriathlon Cros Championship 2019, has been runner-up in the Spanish Aquathlon 2019 in the PTS5 category and silver in the Spanish Sprint Triathlon Championship 2019 PTS5, among other achievements. The Purchena triathlete is already part of the national team and the most immediate objective is to maintain the pace of training and preparation to opt for a medal in the 2024 Paralympics.
The contribution made by the Purchena Town Council in sponsorship of the athlete, is intended to defray the travel and accommodation expenses that he must face to participate in the various qualifying events that will lead him to get the place in the next Paralympics in Paris. Among these events is the Spanish Championships in which he has participated in Pontevedra and won the title of national champion.
