Sabores Almería’ has returned to a gastronomic fair of worldwide repercussion by the front door. Almeria attends Salón Gourmets, the most important food and beverage fair in Europe and one of the most prestigious international benchmarks, as Guest Province in the edition of the return to presentiality. The companies of the gourmet brand of the province, promoted by the Diputación de Almería, will be exhibiting their gastronomic excellence in Madrid until 31 October.
Stand D20 in Pavilion 6 at Ifema has been the centre of attention at this great event with a 450 m2 design space which today welcomed an exceptional guest, the famous presenter Bertín Osborne. The communicator was the star of a day where the products of the 22 ‘Sabores Almería’ companies that travelled to Madrid dazzled the public with their creativity, innovation, sustainability, flavour and quality.
Bertín Osborne, accompanied by the President of the Almería Provincial Council, Javier A. García; the Deputy for Agri-Food Promotion, María Luisa Cruz and the Provincial Deputy, José Antonio García, toured the stand, greeted the entrepreneurs and tasted the products presented by the ‘Sabores Almería’ brands at the 34th Salón Gourmets.
The presenter took part alongside the President of the Provincial Council in a showcooking session with the chef José Berenguer, from the Mistela Restaurant, who prepared a chocolate pepper cream, a tomato tartar with pine nut ajoblanco and red prawn sheet, and a squid in oil.
During this exhibition, Bertín Osborne praised the quality of the agri-food production of the province of Almería: “I am a lover of gastronomy of all kinds and in Almería you are very unaccustomed to it because you are the ones who produce the most food, sell the most and export the most…, this is in keeping with the importance of the stand, which has left me overwhelmed”.
In this sense, Osborne added that “the participation of the companies and products that you show here represents the gastronomy of Almeria, which is amazing. For those of us who like agriculture, it is a pleasure to pass through the province of Almeria and see the great variety of all the crops”, and he recalled that the province accounted for 18% of national agricultural exports and more than 50% of Andalusian exports in 2020.
In addition, the presenter took the opportunity to demand improvements in communications and infrastructure in the province of Almeria: “Let’s see if there is someone among the public from the Government, especially from Fomento, to see if they realise that Almeria exists and Almeria’s communications are embarrassing. Let’s see if someone realises that a province that produces and exports so much needs to be better communicated by air and train”.
For his part, the president of the Provincial Council said that “Bertín, from now on, becomes an ambassador for the products of Almería and ‘Sabores Almería’. You are loved in our province and we know that you are going to fly the flag for our land because I know that you also love Almería”, and thanked him for his support, which will ensure that the media coverage of ‘Sabores Almería’ at Salón Gourmets will be much greater.
Regarding the presence of ‘Sabores Almería’ at Ifema, Javier A. García explained that “we have the best companies, products and chefs and that is why it is a great pride to come to this fair as Guest Province, so that everyone knows our excellence. We will continue to support this exciting project and our chefs”.
A day full of activities
The day began with a welcome to the Salón Gourmets by the president of the Provincial Council to all the companies and chefs from Almeria. Then, the chef José Álvarez (one Michelin Star), from Restaurante La Costa, opened the stand activities with a showcooking in which he prepared three dishes: a pepper sashimi with pickled papaya and soya, a vegetable bouillabaisse of pickled greenhouse vegetables and an Iberian secret with butter earth and violet potato on a base of Alpujarreño marinade.
The sowcookings continued with the participation of chef Dani Muñoz, from Restaurante Travieso, who cooked a dried octopus from Adra with green mojo, marinated sardine with pistachio ajoblanco and tomato air and a cottage cheese, green tomato and royal jelly tart. Earlier, Dani Muñoz had participated with another exhibition at the Junta de Andalucía stand, in Pavilion 8, where ‘Sabores Almería’ has another space at the fair.
The opening day at the ‘Sabores Almería’ stand ended with a visit from the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, who, accompanied by the president and the provincial deputies, visited the exhibition space of the guest province at this edition of Salón Gourmets.
In addition, throughout the day, and for the rest of the remainder of the Salón Gourmets, the Almeria stand hosted tastings, samplings and presentations of products from the companies participating in the ‘Sabores Almería’ exhibition space at Ifema.
