Andalusian Regional Government grants aid for the construction of rental housing in Lúcar and Zurgena.

The programme for the Promotion of the Rental Housing Stock has already distributed subsidies for 172 homes in three calls for proposals.

Regional Ministry of Development, Infrastructures and Territorial Planning will grant subsidies for the construction of 132 new affordable rental homes in the province of Almeria. The third call of the programme for the Promotion of the Rental Housing Stock has been provisionally resolved with the approval of grants for six public developments in five localities: Almería capital, Níjar, Zurgena (2), Lúcar and Padules. Since its launch in 2019, the programme has facilitated the start-up of 172 homes in ten developments.

With this programme, a pioneering initiative and one of the pillars of the Plan Vive en Andalucía, the Government of Juanma Moreno is committed to increasing the supply of affordable rental housing to facilitate access to housing for groups such as young people or families with fewer resources. “These are policies that are producing good results, working hand in hand with local councils, public and private companies,” said the Minister of Development, Infrastructure and Territorial Planning, Marifrán Carazo.

The development with the most homes in the province of Almeria is located in the capital, where the construction of a multi-family building with 64 homes, with two and three bedrooms, is planned in the Costacabana neighbourhood, under the responsibility of the municipal company Almeria XXI. Another development of 62 new homes in the Los Grillos de Níjar neighbourhood has also been taken care of. The rest of the actions are small developments: two houses in Navarro Serna street in Lúcar, three houses in two developments in Zurgena (two new and one in rehabilitation) and one house to be rehabilitated in Alpujarra avenue in Padules.

This third call has been the largest in terms of number of homes. In the first, in 2019, the Consejería de Fomento granted subsidies to build 11 homes in Zurgena (6) and Lubrín (5). There were also two developments in 2020, with 29 homes in Huércal Overa (25) and Laroya (4).

The programme for the Promotion of Rental Housing has increased the stock of affordable housing in Andalusia. In less than three years, the new Andalusian Government has promoted 3,000 new homes for rent at an affordable price through the programme for the Promotion of Rental Housing Stock alone, with prices ranging from 200 to 400 euros per month, depending on the size of the flat. So far this term of office, 80 million euros have been invested in subsidies to public and private developers in Andalusia, with an overall public and private investment of 270 million euros.

In the last call alone, with 30 million euros in subsidies, more than 1,200 homes have been provisionally approved for construction in the eight Andalusian provinces. The overall investment (public and private) exceeds 100 million euros.

This reverses the trend of previous mandates, where hardly any housing was built. This programme also fulfils a triple function: it helps to expand the affordable rental housing market, reactivates the economy and generates employment. The three calls for proposals are expected to generate around 9,000 jobs in the construction sector.
