A trough of cold air at high altitude will be responsible for a brief but intense episode of rain with possible thunderstorms in the Region of Murcia and other areas.
After the strong generalised drop in temperatures on the peninsula on Thursday, the drop in temperatures will reach the Mediterranean area on Friday, according to the weather portal eltiempo.es.
In addition, with the arrival of this trough of cold air from the east of the country, instability will increase and there will be an episode of rain in the region which, although temporary, will be notable for its intensity, and may even be accompanied by occasional thunderstorms.
According to the forecast, it could rain from the early hours of Friday morning and precipitation may occur until Saturday morning in certain areas. The areas most affected by the rainy spell will be: the Region of Murcia, especially the east of the community, the southern half of the Community of Valencia, Almería, Jaén and Granada. Valencia will be the region with the most rainfall.
The areas of Ibiza and Formentera will also be affected, with accumulations of more than 50 mm of rain, and the south of Mallorca, although to a lesser extent.
Storm warnings in some parts of Spain
Storm warnings will be in effect for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall of about 20 litres per square metre accumulated in one hour during the day on Friday in Ibiza and Formentera and the north coast of Alicante and south of Valencia. Throughout the day in all these areas may exceed 50 mm of rain.
There will also be a sharp drop in temperatures in all the areas affected by the rains starting on Friday: temperatures will drop by up to 8ºC from one day to the next and maximum temperatures will no longer exceed 22-24ºC.
