The President of the Community, Fernando López Miras, announced today that “Easter Week in 2022 will once again be experienced in the Region of Murcia as we have always known it. We will be able to have processions, we will be able to go out into the streets, we will be able to take out our thrones, we will be able to be with our images, and, in short, we will be able to profess in all its splendour the devotion and passion that Easter means for thousands and thousands of citizens”.
This decision has been taken after assessing the epidemiological situation in the Region of Murcia with the Covid Committee and with experts and health professionals in Public Health and Epidemiology. In addition, it has taken into account the level of immunisation of the population, the possible evolution of Covid-19, and the fact that most of the activities related to Easter are carried out outdoors.
López Miras announced this measure during the reception at the Palace of San Esteban to the Apostolic Nuncio of His Holiness the Pope in Spain, Monsignor Bernardito Cleopas Auza, which was also attended by the bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes.
“It is true that we have to be cautious,” said López Miras, “but with caution we can say that in 2022 we will experience Easter Week as we knew it, to enjoy one of our most recognised traditions and signs of identity throughout the world,” he added.
The head of the regional executive thanked the nuncio for his “exciting” visit to the Region of Murcia, and stressed that “in a land where the majority of citizens profess the Catholic faith, it is very important to have the representative of His Holiness, to receive his word and his testimony”.
