The territorial delegate for Sustainable Development, Raquel Espín, participated this morning in a day organised by the Infoca Plan with the aim of raising awareness among the pupils of the CEIP Trina Rull school in Olula del Río of the importance of working to prevent forest fires. The activity was also attended by the mayor of this town, Antonio Martínez Pascual, and the provincial coordinator of Plan Infoca, Rafael Yebra.
Espín said that “the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development wanted to set up this educational day for the 328 schoolchildren at this centre to learn about the work carried out by the Infoca Plan to prevent forest fires”. First of all, an educational talk was given on the importance of prevention, and then on the football pitch in this town, 15 professionals from the Forestry Defence Centre, Cedefo de Serón, gave an exhibition with the MA-1 helicopter, where the children saw first-hand the Infoca equipment and equipment.
The infant and primary school pupils, accompanied by their teachers, “were able to learn about the values of our natural heritage and the serious threat posed by forest fires, as well as the resources available to the professionals working in the fight against fire,” said the delegate for Sustainable Development in Almeria.
For his part, the mayor of Olula del Río stressed that “it is very important to set up activities such as the one carried out this morning, as prevention is everyone’s job, and it is essential to transmit to the youngest children the social prevention tools available to citizens in the fight against forest fires”.
