The Alicante City & Beach Tourist Board and the Alicante Provincial Association of Hotel and Catering Businesses (APHEA) have organised a gastronomic presentation in San Sebastian and Bilbao on 3 and 4 November under the Alicante City of Rice brand, with which the star product of Alicante’s gastronomy will travel to the Basque Country next week.
Chefs José Juan Gómez (Racó del Pla restaurant), Jacinto Nieto (El Caldero) and Moncho Riquelme (Casa Riquelme) will be in charge of preparing their rice dishes in front of specialised media, food critics, travel agencies and authorities in the two Basque cities.
On the 3rd, the chefs will prepare their rice dishes at the Ni Neu restaurant in the Kursaal in San Sebastian. And on the 4th, at the NH Collection Villa de Bilbao.
These days will be accompanied by institutional meetings to generate tourism synergies with the Basque Country. «The aim is to strengthen the flow of visitors, as more and more Basques are coming to visit us», stresses the Deputy Mayoress and Councillor for Tourism, Mari Carmen Sánchez, with the intention of «pampering» national tourism.
BROTHY, DRY AND SWEET RICE DISHES
The menu that Alicante City of Rice will take to these days is made up of ‘coca amb tonyina’, ‘coca de mollitas’, salted fish, artichokes with cuttlefish and broad beans, tasting of lechola rice, dry rice with prawns and tuna and tender rice with veal shank. And for dessert, almond drunk with cream and nougat ice cream.
In addition, white and red wines from Alicante will be served (Tarima Hill from Bodegas Volver, Marina Alta 28 Selección from Bocopa, Casa Agrícola Pepe Mendoza and Alicante Bouchet from Bodegas Volver), as well as Fondillón from MGWines Group.
As president of APEHA, María del Mar Valera, assures us that the sector is «happy» to be back in business doing what they do best: seeking gastronomic excellence». «We are represented in the Basque Country by three of the city’s leading establishments and we want them to get to know our products, to like them, to come and visit us and for all of this to come back to Alicante».
