To convey to the guests the qualities and benefits of materials and a sector that is increasingly enjoying greater prestige and international projection. This has been the objective of the cultural-business event of the Macael Brand, held in the framework of the Alhambra in Granada, whose predecessor took place in the Metropolitan Museum of New York in 2017. Organised by AEMA, the Andalusian Association of Marble Entrepreneurs, in collaboration with Extenda-Andalucía Exports and Foreign Investment, this brand, which encompasses the companies that extract, produce and market natural stone in Macael, brought together around twenty stone specifiers, including architects, designers, installers and construction professionals in general, from the United States and different European countries.
The event, which was divided into two blocks, could not have been more spectacular and symbolic. On the one hand, a presentation of the Macael Brand was held in the Carmen de los Mártires, with the intervention of the architect from Granada, Elisa Valero, the CEO of Extenda, Arturo Bernal, and the vice-president of the Association of Marble Entrepreneurs of Andalusia, Diego Martínez. After that, the participants have enjoyed a cocktail-networking in which the companies that, being part of AEMA, have taken part in the action have also taken part. These companies are: Cosentino, Mármoles Juan Tijeras, Cuellar Stone, Mármoles Camar, Mármoles Gutiérrez Mena, Hermasa and Cosaga Mármoles, Mármoles Naturales de Macael, Mármoles Luis Sánchez, Mármoles Pérez García and AP mármoles. The day culminated with a private nocturnal visit to the Alhambra, in which specialised guides explained to the guests the marble richness of the emblematic Nasrid monument, linked to Macael. Undoubtedly, within this historical cultural context, in which marble is present, the Patio de los Leones, made in Mármol Blanco Macael, has been the main protagonist.
In the words of Elisa Valero, who is also Professor of Architectural Projects at the ETSA in Granada, if there is one sustainable material, it is marble. “What more sustainability can there be than the life cycle of the material itself, which is capable of lasting more than a thousand years, as is the case in the Alhambra, without the need to renew it, only to maintain it, thus avoiding the production of waste”. For her, who has expressed how grateful she is to Macael marble for the contribution it has made to her professional career, “once you understand and value the nature of the material, you realise that the material improves with time”.
In his speech, Diego Martínez, stressed that the Macael Brand is defined “by the ability to work, not only with our wonderful local marbles, but also with other materials from other countries”. The manager has indicated that the commitment to innovation to offer new materials, textures and sizes that meet new trends and market needs, is another of the maxims of this group of companies, as is “the specialisation of equipment, training and technical knowledge”, as well as “the great tradition, experience and know-how in the production of natural stone, along with investment in the latest technology”.
Arturo Bernal, for his part, commented that “in this industry an excellent raw material is combined with know-how and technology to create an exclusive product that has made an enormous contribution to architecture, both classical and contemporary, including the Nasrid tradition omnipresent in Granada”. The CEO of Extenda addressed those present, assuring them that “betting on the natural stone of Andalusia, on the Macael Brand, is betting on excellence, innovation and a unique style that makes the difference”.
The event was attended by the Delegate of Development of Granada, Mr. Antonio Granados García, the Delegate of the Government of Andalusia in Almeria, Ms. Maribel Sánchez Torregrosa, the Delegate of Tourism of Almeria, Mr. Vicente García Egea, and the Mayor of Macael, Mr. Raúl Martínez Requejo.
This event will be followed by a reverse trade mission that will take the participants to Macael. There, they will be able to see, first hand, both the marble quarries and the factories. The Macael Brand will also be the protagonist of different meetings between guests and companies that have joined the activity. The action will culminate with the attendance of the participants to the Macael 2021 Awards Gala, which this year celebrates its thirty-fourth edition next Friday, 12th November.
