The Almeria Provincial Council continues to create and improve services in the municipalities of the interior of the province. On this occasion, Urrácal, located in the heart of the Comarca del Mármol, has inaugurated a new green space, with several elements that encourage the practice of sports for all ages. The project has been financed through the Plan Almería grants for an amount of €40,000.
At the opening ceremony, the vice-president of the Provincial Institution, Ángel Escobar and the mayoress of the municipality, Emilia Mateo, were accompanied by the provincial deputy, José Antonio García, as well as the deputy mayor of Urrácal, Antonio González and other members of the municipal corporation.
In addition, an inaugural plaque donated by the sculptor Roberto Manzano was unveiled, dedicated to Paquita Gómez Gallardo, a recently deceased neighbour who was deeply rooted in the municipality. Her brother and sister-in-law, moved, took part in the ceremony.
The vice-president, Ángel Escobar, stressed the importance of the different actions carried out by the provincial councils in the smaller municipalities: “today we are not only inaugurating a sports park, but we are launching a new service with the aim of keeping the population in the inland villages and offering tourists and visitors a range of services that are attractive enough for them to come and return as often as they wish”.
For her part, the mayoress of the municipality, Emilia Mateo, thanked the Diputación de Almería for all the work they have done in Urrácal to improve the quality of life of the residents: “this bio-healthy park is essential so that young and old have the opportunity to do complementary exercises that have a positive impact on their wellbeing”.
Lastly, Antonio Enrique Gómez, a relative of the neighbour to whom the plaque is dedicated, expressed his emotion after the unveiling of the plaque: “I know that my sister would have spent much of her free time in this park but cancer took her away. On her behalf and on behalf of my family, we thank Urrácal for this dedication which will remain in everyone’s memory”.
The work of this bio-healthy park has two actions. Firstly, the construction located at the entrance to the municipality (C/ La Hoya), has involved the conversion of an old car park and is now a green space consisting of different gym equipment (7), an information sign, three wooden benches, four litter bins, a table with a chess board with its corresponding seats and four trees with their corresponding tree wells.
Secondly, this action is intended to improve road safety in Calle la Hoya, which is the crossing of the ALP-844 road through the town of Urrácal. To this end, two pedestrian crossings and appropriate signposting have been installed to reduce the speed of vehicles and others travelling along the road.
