The IX Festival ‘Platos de Película’ will once again turn Almería into the international capital of cinema through gastronomy with 40 proposals that will conquer the palate. Cuisine and the big screen will merge from 18 November to 19 December to offer an innovative menu in establishments associated with Ashal.
This initiative is part of the 20th Almería International Film Festival (FICAL) and will highlight the excellence of the capital in two of its great hallmarks: gastronomy and cinema. The activity was presented by the Deputy Delegate for Agri-Food Promotion, María Luisa Cruz, the Councillor for Promotion, Carlos Sánchez, and the President of the Provincial Association of Hotel and Catering Businesses of Almería (Ashal), Pedro Sánchez-Fortún, at the Capitol Costa Restaurant in El Zapillo, together with the owner of the establishment, Andrés López, and the Cruzcampo delegate, Álvaro Díaz.
The deputy, María Luisa Cruz, said that “with this activity we continue to support the hotel and catering sector together with the Town Hall. It is one more incentive to enjoy our film festival, FICAL, so that all those who come to visit us these days can enjoy both things, the world of cinema and our film tapas in our bars and restaurants and, of course, we have in our favour our top quality Almerian product”.
For his part, the Councillor for Promotion, Carlos Sánchez, said at the opening toast that “from the City Council we are delighted to participate along with the Provincial Council and the hospitality sector in this ninth edition, which takes place in such an important month in Almería, as is the month of cinema, thanks to FICAL. And to participate in any action that has to do with supporting such an important sector and an economic engine, we welcome it”.
Finally, the president of ASHAL, Pedro Sánchez-Fortún, indicated that “we are delighted to be with Sabores Almería, Diputación and the City Council in this activity for another year. We are on a path of transit after many hardships and it is good to feel that we have always had them by our side”.
Data from this year’s edition
A total of 40 bars and restaurants, 37 in the capital and 3 in the province, have joined the ‘Platos de Película’ Festival. Each establishment will include in its menu a culinary proposal with the name of a series or film, most of which have a close link to Almería as it has been the main filming location or includes a scene in the filming.
Nor will there be any lack of solidarity in an activity that is characterised by contributing its grain of sand to social initiatives. In this edition, customers who present two tickets from different venues at the Ashal headquarters, for more than 20 euros, will be able to get a mug made by Asalsido members. A gift decorated with the Cathedral, the train station and different motifs of the city.
For every consumer who comes for their gift, one euro will be donated to help the families affected by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma. This donation will be made through the initiative “La hostelería por La Palma” (The hotel and catering trade for La Palma), which has been promoted by the employers’ association Hostelería de España in solidarity with the victims.
Films such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, ‘Exodus’, ‘The Taste of Revenge’ or ‘Conan the Barbarian’ are some of the names that can be found on the dishes. In short, it will be an opportunity to discover the link between Almeria and cinema through gastronomy during an intense month in which Almerians and visitors are called upon to enjoy themselves in the bars and restaurants of the city.
