This Sunday, 28th November, the Day of the Province will be celebrated in the Almanzora region, specifically in the municipality of Purchena. An event that has been held annually since 1998, in commemoration of the declaration made in November 1835 by Queen Isabella II of Spain, which would lead to the creation of the Diputación de Almería.
This year’s edition is expected to be particularly emotional, as the Diputación will present the Medals of the province to the winners in 2020 and 2021, after a year in which such an important event had to be suspended due to the pandemic.
The Purchena Sports Pavilion has been transformed into a large auditorium to host this Sunday a large number of public officials and agents from all areas of Almeria society. They will attend the presentation of medals that recognise people, institutions or entities that contribute with their work, talent and effort to the development of the province of Almeria.
The Gold Medal of the Province will go to José Luis Martínez García, the Social Medal to the College of Pharmacists of Almería, the Culture Medal to the Los Gallardos Three Kings and the Sports Medal to the Almería Basketball Club.
This year’s ceremony will also see the awarding of the 2020 Province Day medals. The hospitals of the province will receive their distinction as Gold Medal of the Diputación; in addition to the Teléfono de la Esperanza, which will receive the Medal of the Social; the Festival de Flamenco de Fondón, for Culture; and URA Almería, for Sport.
The event will start at 11am and although most of the attendees will be invited, it will be open until full capacity is reached.
