Two people arrested for stealing 500 crates of fruit and vegetable produce packaging

The Guardia Civil officers found the boxes in a scrap yard.

The Guardia Civil of Almeria, as part of the operation “Castañera”, has arrested two men from the same family for stealing 500 crates of fruit and vegetable products from a farm in the town of Pechina and then selling them in a scrap metal shop using the identity of a third person.

The investigation began in the middle of last November when the victim, the owner of a greenhouse farm in Paraje Rambla Rubira, reported the theft of fifty plastic boxes used for packaging and transporting fruit and vegetables, valued at 1,500 euros.

Given the characteristics of the stolen material and thanks to the information provided by the complainant, the agents inspected several establishments and found a large number of boxes piled up in a nearby junkyard. They had the same characteristics as those reported by the complainant, who days later recognised them as his and they were returned to him.

The Guardia Civil continued their investigations to identify those who had sold the boxes to this establishment and, on checking the sales invoice, suspected that the details provided could be false and correspond to a person other than the one who made the sale.

The agents managed to identify two regular customers of the junkyard, two men aged 24 and 31 belonging to the same family, as the perpetrators of the theft and subsequent sale of the boxes.

The detainees have been charged with one offence of theft and another of usurpation of civil status and placed at the disposal of the Duty Court of Almeria.

This arrest is part of the activities carried out by the Guardia Civil during the citizen security services carried out in the west of Almeria, to prevent and avoid the different robberies, providing a rapid response to criminal acts committed in this area.
