The Guardia Civil of Almeria has arrested a 20 year old man as the perpetrator of a continuous theft of public electrical wiring in the urbanisation Mar de Pulpí, in San Juan de los Terreros, during the last three months. In addition, the young man caused damage to numerous lampposts to the value of 10,000 euros.

The investigation began at the beginning of last September with complaints from several neighbours in the area. After carrying out an ocular inspection of the scene and using their own technological means, the officers analysed the information gathered and located an eyewitness to one of the thefts. With the help of this person, they were able to identify and arrest the perpetrator of the thefts.

A public alert by the Pulpí Town Council and the Guardia Civil through the media and their digital channels stimulated citizen collaboration, which was key to clearing up the crime.

The detainee has been charged with a crime of continuous theft of electrical wiring in public lighting and has been placed at the disposal of the Duty Court of Huercal-Overa. The investigation is still open pending the identification of the recipient of the stolen copper.
