The project for the “implementation and industrial expansion of Cosentino in the municipalities of Cantoria, Fines and Partaloa,” has officially received the Declaration of Autonomic Interest (DIA) from the Andalusian Regional Government. The approval of the DIA has been resolved by the Governing Council held today 28 December, and represents a new endorsement by the Junta of the investment commitment of the multinational, a world leader in the production and distribution of innovative and sustainable surfaces for architecture and design, in the province of Almeria.
The project, which already obtained the consideration of Strategic Interest (DIE) last July 2019, involves a total investment of 719 million euros over a period of ten years, and the creation of more than 700 direct jobs, to which almost 2,000 indirect jobs will be added. This business initiative, promoted by Cosentino and Soluciones Ambientales Coma, will increase the production capacity of Dekton® and Silestone® products, as well as having an important sustainability and circular economy component in the recovery and reuse of waste and other environmental initiatives.
With the approval of the EIS, the investments already made by Cosentino to date in this project are consolidated, as well as providing legal coverage for the growth plans of the company’s Industrial Park located in the three municipalities of the Almanzora area. This is because the purpose of the Declaration of Regional Interest is to promote economic initiatives by streamlining and simplifying the administrative processing of projects and declaring them to be of strategic interest to the region. The EIS, therefore, accredits the special relevance for the economic, social and territorial development of Andalusia of Cosentino’s industrial commitment and the planned expansion.
“We would like to thank the Regional Government of Andalusia for the impetus given to our project, which demonstrates our real and reliable commitment to Almeria and the region as a whole. We must also highlight the excellent work being done by the Strategic Projects Accelerator Unit. In our case, we are facing a clear and defined roadmap for our next investments, acting with a long-term vision, and seeking to ensure a sustainable business model for the future. We are convinced that Cosentino’s project will continue to be a driving force for the economy and the business fabric, both for our region and for Almería”, said Álvaro de la Haza, Cosentino’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Development.
For the drafting and development of the EIS documentation, Cosentino has had the legal advice of Cuatrecasas, and the technical contribution of Buró 4 Arquitectos.
