People over the age of 40 can make an appointment to receive the third dose of the vaccine against the coronavirus from this Friday, at 15.00 hours, as reported by the Minister of Health, Juan José Pedreño, at a press conference held after the weekly meeting of the Governing Council.
In the 40 to 55 age bracket it is necessary to request an appointment online, in order to «avoid possible crowds that may occur each time the vaccination is opened to a new age bracket», said the Minister, who assured that «the necessary appointments will be progressively incorporated in all municipalities».
Pedreño stressed the importance of maximising prevention measures because, according to the forecasts contained in various technical studies projecting cases, the number of infections will continue to increase over the coming weeks.
This growth has already been experienced this week in the Region of Murcia, with an increase in the incidence rate of 60 percent compared to the previous week, reaching 4,711 cases per 100,000 inhabitants at 14 days.
The Health Minister pointed out that his department has implemented various measures to detect positive cases and act against the spread of the virus, such as carrying out antigen tests in the Primary Care Emergency Services (SUAP).
With regard to the vaccination campaign, Pedreño explained that more than 1.5 million people in the Region of Murcia have been fully vaccinated, and 395,685 booster doses have been applied.
The Minister reminded the public that the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 continues in the Region, by appointment. He also indicated that the campaign «is going at a good pace» and encouraged parents to take their children to be vaccinated because «it protects us above all from preventing serious illness and mortality».
