Cantoria 2017 returned to winning ways this Sunday morning at the Los Olivos municipal ground, beating Berja 2-1 in the provincial derby.
After 7 minutes of the first half Capel scored the first of his account after a run by Migui who passed to Ricardo and the 10th man assisted Capel who popped up on the right to beat Edu.
It was 1-0 and the game was going to the Aurinegros who had just lost in Estepona against the leaders, with the need to keep their noses in front and against a direct rival in Group 2 of the Andalusian Division of Honour.
But the lead could have been lost in the ninth minute, when the referee awarded a penalty for the visitors after a save by Alberto. Flavio from the 12-yard spot kick hit the left post of the home keeper, who guessed right and kept the scoreboard at a safe distance.
In the 17th minute, the Aurinegro could have increased the lead, but Miguel Ángel’s cross from the penalty spot was not connected with the post. Cantoria were warning and every gallop from their full-backs did a lot of damage to the visitors’ defence.
So much for the pitcher going to the source, that once again Capel, one of the defenders with the most goals in the championship (7), sent the ball into the back of the net from Abdou’s pass.
2-0 and it was half-time. In the second half, Calleja’s team found it hard to get back into the game, number 14 Flavio had his revenge and scored in the 4th minute with a whole life to play and a very tight score.
But not much else happened again. Reche, who came on in the second half, failed to intercept a ball in the mouth of the six-yard box into an empty net, which would have made the score more advantageous.
The 2-1 scoreline remained unchanged until the referee blew the final whistle in the 94th minute, leaving the Almanzoríes in eighth place after 18 games.
Next weekend the team from Cantoria travel to the province of Malaga to play against CD Rincón.
