Progress on the railway connection project between the Region and Andalusia. Adif, the Administrator of Railway Infrastructures, has awarded for 207 million Euro the platform works of the Lorca-Pulpí section, the Murcia-Almería section, which covers a little more than 30 kilometres. They are the ones that run between the south of Lorca city centre, some 200 metres north of the junction with the RM-11 road, and the station in the Almería municipality of Pulpí.
The contract, with a completion period of 34 months, includes, among other things, the construction of 10 viaducts, 11 overpasses, 17 underpasses and the creation of the Rincón tunnel, which is almost one kilometre long. It also includes the adaptation of the Puerto Lumbreras and Pulpí stations and a new building in Almendricos to serve the local train service.
The corresponding contract has been awarded to the joint venture (UTE) formed by Ferrovial Construcción and Acciona Construcción. ADIF has confirmed that this action reaffirms the central administration’s commitment to the planning and development of the Mediterranean Corridor, with new actions that promote and advance the construction of this strategic infrastructure.
This action is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Operational Plan. One of its goals is to “develop reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures” and “promote accessible and safe transport”.
