The Provincial Council continues to strengthen and reinforce its commitment to the associative fabric of the province through aid to finance and enable social projects for people who need it most, such as the speech therapy treatment financed by the Provincial Institution. The vice-president and deputy for Social Welfare, Ángeles Martínez, visited the centre together with the mayor of Olula del Río, Antonio Martínez Pascual, and the president of the association, Miguel Martínez Ortega.

Since it began its activity in 1989 as an association of people with disabilities, the non-profit organisation “Ver de Olula” has become a real reference centre in the Almanzora Valley, as well as for the rest of the province. Formed by 400 members, they help more than a hundred children thanks to the institutional support of the Diputación, Junta de Andalucía, Mancomunidad del Valle del Almanzora and Ayuntamiento de Olula del Río, as well as their collaborating members and volunteers.

The vice-president highlighted the collaboration between the association and the Provincial Council: “We have to continue working along these lines in order to equalise opportunities for the people of Almeria. With the promotion of the speech therapy treatment project in which we have been collaborating since 2019, many children throughout the province are going to benefit. We have great professionals who, in addition to treating these children, provide fundamental support to the families”.

In addition, the vice-president visited the new expansion centre that the association will have, which consists of enlarging the Early Attention Centre and School. “The aim is for a greater number of people with disabilities to enjoy quality facilities that include, among other great innovations, a therapeutic swimming pool and a large gymnasium”.

For his part, the Mayor of Olula del Río, Antonio Pascual, thanked the Provincial Council for its work, commitment and collaboration with the association: “I am proud that all the institutions are directly involved with the reference association of Olula and the whole province. More than 30 years guarantee the work that the members and volunteers have been doing with all people with disabilities. They have projects that will allow us to expand services and staff”.

Objectives of the association:

To socially, occupationally and educationally integrate people with disabilities, trying to cover the needs of this group.
To promote and stimulate mutual help among disabled people.
To remove all obstacles that prevent or hinder: the integration of this group, compliance with legislation, participation in social life and the progressive elimination of architectural barriers, as well as the support and encouragement of alternatives in this field.
Offer counselling services, pedagogical and socio-health care, early childhood care and special education.
