Investments by the Almeria Provincial Council will enable four inland municipalities to boost tourist activity. This has been announced by the vice-president and deputy for Development, Ángel Escobar, who has detailed that Cóbdar, Tahal, Bayárcal and Ohanes will use the Provincial Plans to build municipal hostels and rural accommodation to create a solid offer of inland tourism that will boost the economy and employment.
Ángel Escobar pointed out that the projects, which are currently being drafted and processed, will mean a significant economic injection for these municipalities: “We are talking about more than half a million euros to enhance the municipal heritage with infrastructures that can generate wealth and, furthermore, fix the population in these villages. Inland tourism has become a source of employment and wealth for the inland municipalities and, with these projects, the tourist offer of Cóbdar, Tahal, Bayárcal and Ohanes will be reinforced”.
The vice-president stressed the importance of the Provincial Plan investments because they make it possible to turn projects into reality that would otherwise be impossible for the municipalities to undertake on their own, and pointed out that thanks to the measure implemented by the Diputación de Almería, the small municipalities will be able to deduct from their contribution the low amount obtained in the award process.
Specifically, these investments will go to municipalities in which the inland and nature tourism segment has experienced significant growth since the start of the pandemic.
In the Alpujarra, the Diputación will carry out the project to complete the adaptation of tourist accommodation and the Ohanes recreational area, which has a budget of 182,700 euros. The municipality has made an important commitment to this action that will have 100% of the investment planned for the Four-Year Plan 2020-23. The project is currently in the drafting process and will soon begin its processing so that it can be completed in 2023.
Similarly, the municipality of Bayárcal is going to allocate its Provincial Plan investments to the construction of a municipal water reservoir, to guarantee the water supply and the construction of a Municipal Hostel that will create new opportunities and boost employment and the municipal economy.
In Tahal, considered the gateway to the Almanzora, the Town Council has decided to use 100% of the funds from the Provincial Plans for two projects that are linked to the cross-cutting objective of the Provincial Council: the fight against depopulation. On the one hand, the Town Council has planned the repair, adaptation and provision of a single-family dwelling in Calle la Fuente; and on the other hand, the construction of a hostel in Tahal with a budget of 169,510 €.
Finally, Cóbdar has decided to invest the funds from the Provincial Plans in two works linked to tourism. Firstly, the project to improve and refurbish one of the main tourist attractions of the municipality during the summer months, the municipal swimming pool, is being processed. And the second project is to convert a warehouse into rural accommodation to boost tourism in the municipality.
