Lorca City Council and the livestock sector come closer, although they disagree on the moratorium on 9 farms.

Meeting between Lorca City Council and the livestock sector.

The Mesa de Trabajo Ganadera has assured that it maintains its “rejection” of the content of the motion on the urban modification of the pig farms to be debated by the Lorca town council next week, which on 31 January led to an assault on the plenary session by a group of farmers opposed to it.

Although the town council and the farmers expressed their agreement in their first meeting after the incidents on Wednesday, hours later the Adespolorca association sent a communiqué on behalf of the Mesa, stating that it “does not agree with what is included” in the motion, which will remain unchanged despite the sector’s protests.

In the note, the Bureau says it accepts that the administrative process in the municipal plenary will continue its course because “it is something that we obviously cannot oppose because we do not have the capacity to interfere in this administrative process”.

“The organisations representing the sector will proceed to present a series of allegations in order to defend the legitimate interests of livestock farmers as soon as the deadlines allow,” the communiqué adds.
