Los Alcázares will receive an investment of 6 million euros to redirect runoff water from the La Maraña wadi to the mouth of the La Pescadería wadi in order to minimise the risk of flooding in the municipality. The funding has been committed by Minister Teresa Ribera during her visit to the Region of Murcia.
The Mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez, said that “if this is the case, it will be the largest investment by the Spanish Government in the Mar Menor region aimed at relieving the pressure of the rains on our municipality”. “The ministry proposes to recover the traditional mouth of the Rambla de la Maraña and renaturalise the area to prevent the centre of the municipality from being flooded in the event of heavy rainfall,” said the mayor.
The work will be financed entirely by the central government and is expected to begin in 2023.
