Agents of the command of the Guardia Civil of Almeria, in a recently completed operation called “Peniko II”, arrested in Garrucha a person for fraud, falsification of documents and favouring irregular immigration.
This operation is part of the permanent activity carried out by the Guardia Civil in the province of Almeria in the field of prevention and investigation of crimes against property, especially against vulnerable groups.
The investigation began when the Guardia Civil agents detected that a person was offering work contracts to migrants in the first place in an altruistic way, promising them access to renting a house, and then asking them for sums of money between 300 and 3,000 euros in order to materialise the contracts.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the perpetrator offered work contracts in companies that had been deregistered in the hotel and catering sector or did not exist at all, pretending to have a solvency and purchasing power that in reality he did not have.
Likewise, he offered them access to rented housing and the management of the corresponding registration, housing that they never occupied.
Once he managed to receive money from the victims, he distanced himself by offering excuses without ever materialising what he had offered, with the result that the victims never worked or lived in the places they were promised.
In the final phase of the investigation, the Guardia Civil agents intercepted rental contracts with non-existent addresses and employment contracts of companies where the detainee was the sole administrator and had been deregistered for months.
In addition, the agents found that the detainee had previous convictions for numerous offences, including counterfeiting and fraud. Finally, as a result of this action, the Guardia Civil of Almeria arrested a 28-year-old man in Garrucha for crimes of fraud, falsification of documents and favouring irregular immigration, referring the proceedings to the Dean of the Judicial District of Vera.
