The municipal government of Cartagena asks the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, to study the feasibility of converting the Fajardo military battery into a national parador.
The request was made by the mayoress Noelia Arroyo on behalf of the council. For the moment, the central government is committed to analysing the proposal to convert this 19th century military fortress overlooking the sea into a national parador.
Arroyo pointed out that “we believe that Cartagena can house a tourist parador and we think that there is a possibility of installing it in the Fajardo barracks. It is a building that forms part of Cartagena’s defensive system, which is one of the most complete in the Mediterranean and is a great resource for cultural tourism and also for sports and nature tourism due to its location”.
