The Provincial Council of Almeria today kicked off the Provincial Triathlon Circuit 2022 which consists of ten races to be held in the municipalities of El Ejido, Vera, Garrucha, Tíjola, with three events, Cuevas del Almanzora and Almeria capital where, in the latter two, two competitions will be held in each of them.
The sporting event is organised by the Provincial Institution together with the Town Councils of the participating municipalities, the Andalusian Triathlon Federation and the collaboration of the Andalusian Regional Government. One of the main novelties is the launch of the Provincial Junior Triathlon Circuit of the Diputación de Almería.
This morning, at the Moisés Ruiz Sports Pavilion, the Deputy for Sports, José Antonio García; the delegate of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation in Almería, José Luis González, and the Paralympic triathlete, Jairo Ruiz, presented the new edition of this circuit which promotes a sport which is on the rise in the province and which is increasingly being practised by more and more Almerians. The main objective is to promote this sport and to offer a quality event aimed at all age groups and levels.
The deputy highlighted that “if there is a sport that is growing exponentially, not only in the province, but throughout Andalusia, both in terms of the number of federation licences, the number of participants and the number of events on offer, it is triathlon. The province of Almeria offers great possibilities for the practice of this sport because our land is perfect for cycling, swimming or running”.
García also stressed that this sport “is a clear example of a tourist attraction. There are many participants in these events who return to the province to enjoy their sporting discipline. In addition, this year we are including a parallel provincial circuit for minors, which complements the promotion of the Provincial Sports Games, giving it a more competitive aspect”.
For his part, the delegate of the Andalusian Federation has reiterated the growth and good moment that triathlon is experiencing in the province and Andalusia and has pointed out that “together with the support of the Provincial Council and the organising clubs, very interesting and leading events can be organised at Andalusian and national level. We have an environment in the province with ideal conditions, natural spaces, inland environments, coastal villages…, with unique resources for this sport”.
Finally, Jairo Ruiz, who has just created a club that bears his name, explained that the aim is to carry out competitive events to promote the Circuit and has highlighted the inclusive nature of these events and discipline that always contemplate this modality so that everyone can participate.
The competition, due to its popular character, is open to federated and non-federated athletes. The competitive categories for men and women are junior, under 23, senior, veteran I, II and III, paratriathlon and club. A final classification will be established with the athletes who obtain the best results in the different events.
