Macael to collect food, sanitary products and warm clothes to send to Ukraine

The products will be collected in the foyer of the Municipal Theatre in the mornings and afternoons throughout next week, from 7 to 11 March.

The wave of solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the Almanzora region continues. Since the Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine began, there has been a succession of expressions of condemnation of the war and solidarity and support for the Ukrainians through demonstrations or different campaigns to collect all kinds of products that can help the many families who are losing everything.

The Almanzora region is no stranger to this humanitarian drama. We have seen in the last few days how Ukrainian neighbours of Albox set up a solidarity collection at the beginning of the week. Associations such as Caritas, or Scout and town councils such as Macael, Fines or Olula del Rio, who have made themselves available to Ukrainian families living in their villages, to launch campaigns to collect the most demanded items to help on the front or for civilians affected by the war.

In fact, the Macael campaign will begin on Monday 7th March and will last the whole of next week, with the support of all the residents of the municipality who wish to collaborate. Medicines are needed, medical supplies such as gauze, bandages, Betadine, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, antibiotics. Food such as flour, dried fruit and nuts, tinned food, powdered cereals, infant milk and biscuits. Hygiene products such as wipes, nappies, gel or shampoo. In addition to warm clothing such as sleeping bags, insulating mats, warm clothes or blankets.

The hall of the Municipal Theatre will serve as a collection point, in the morning and afternoon, for anyone who wants to bring their help. Caritas is also collaborating in this initiative and has made available some account numbers for financial donations for the same cause.

“Ukrainian families have been living among us for years. Because of them and because we can not be oblivious to what is happening, from the council we have made ourselves available to help and to launch this campaign to collect food and medical supplies throughout the week. I am sure that Macael will do its utmost to help”, assures the Mayor, Raúl Martínez.
