5 people arrested for the theft of 5900 meters of copper cable in Zurgena and Cantoria

The agents solve two robberies in two different actions committed in a marble factory in Zurgena and in the public lighting of the town of Cantoria.

In a new action within the scope of the Plan to combat theft of copper cable that permanently develops the Civil Guard in the province of Almeria and as a result of a thorough investigation, agents arrested 5 people, three of them minors, for the theft of 5900 meters of copper cable in Zurgena and Cantoria.

This investigation is the result of the actions developed by the Civil Guard in the region of marble, in order to prevent and clarify crimes against property whose object is the copper cable.

The agents resolved in two different actions the thefts committed in a marble factory in which they surprised “in fraganti” the perpetrators, recovering the amount of 2500 meters of cable ready for transport and in the public lighting of the town of Cantoria in which the agents recovered 3400 meters of copper cable.

In the first phase of the actions, the agents intercepted the vehicle used by the perpetrators to move, driven by one of them, an adult, circulating without the ITV in force and without compulsory insurance, intercepting tools used for cutting and manipulation of copper wire, hooded sweatshirts to hinder their identification and small amounts of drugs.

In the second of the actions, after the analysis of the information obtained and with the support of technological means, the authors of the theft of copper cable from the public lighting of the town of Cantoria are arrested, recovering a total of 3400 meters of cable.

The total damage caused in the two thefts amounts to more than 115,000 euros.

The proceedings conducted by the Guardia Civil were delivered to the Juzgado Único de Purchena.
