In recent days, the Hospital Universitario Torrecárdenas has registered two new multiple organ donations, thanks to which different organs and tissues have been sent for transplantation. According to the transplant coordinator of the Hospital Universitario Torrecárdenas, Francisco Guerrero, “during the last few days, in sector four, which includes Malaga, Almeria, and the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, four donors in asystole have been counted, which will allow at least twelve organ transplants to be carried out”. These donations include those made at the referral hospital in the province of Almeria.
Information for families in this type of situation
When the transplant coordinators interview a grieving family to offer them the option of organ donation, they provide them with all the necessary information “to make them see that donation is a good and supportive decision. That the memory of the donation will make the loss more bearable as the weeks or months go by. There will always be one or more families who will remember their donor with the greatest gratitude they can have towards a person they feel to be kind because, at the cost of their relative’s life, they facilitated his or her recovery. Dr. Francisco Guerrero also stated that “we are witnessing more and more families spontaneously offering organ and tissue donation when they are informed of the diagnosis of critical illnesses with an unfortunate prognosis. This growing complicity makes it much easier for us to bring donation closer to those patients on the transplant waiting list, who need urgent and effective solutions for their serious diseases in vital organs”.
