A new edition of the «Mónica Sánchez» Multicolour Football League, promoted by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Department of Sports and the Club Las Pistas, kicked off last Sunday at the Club Las Pistas. The Mayor, Domingo Fernández, together with the Councillor for Social Welfare, María José Viudez, accompanied the members of the eight teams competing in the start of the league.
The Mayor, highlighted the good reception that once again this year has had this activity with which «the members of the different teams enjoy the sport while promoting coexistence among the residents of the municipality. Football becomes a nice excuse to meet new people and to unite the different nationalities that make up the people of Huércal-Overa», and he thanked the organisers for the interest shown in resuming this league after the break due to the pandemic.
A total of eight teams are taking part in this competition: Romania, Ecuador, Los Tollos, Colombia, Centro de menores, Los Leones, Centro Latino and Spain, made up of residents of 10 different nationalities. The matches will be played every Sunday at the Las Pistas football ground.
At the start of the matches a minute’s silence was observed for Rafael González, father of José, the referee of these matches, who recently passed away.
