1st Forum on Social Innovation to promote the projects of associations in the province of Almeria

The president of the Provincial Council, Javier A. García, inaugurated the conference.

The Provincial Council of Almeria has held its 1st Social Innovation Forum with the aim of promoting the projects of the associative network that makes up the third sector of the province. This initiative was born with a vocation of continuity and the aim of becoming a meeting point to promote innovative ideas among associations and entities working to improve the welfare and quality of life of all Almerians.
The president highlighted social innovation “as one of the major commitments of the government team of the Diputación de Almería. This first forum is a reflection of our interest in promoting social innovation in Almeria’s associations. We want it to become a space for ideas to present, debate and generate synergies, connect people, make innovative projects a reality and all of this will help us to build a more mature society”.
In this sense, Javier A. García explained that “we understand social innovation as the great engine that guarantees the welfare of all Almeria residents without exception. Social innovation helps us to equalise opportunities between Almeria residents, fix the population, structure the territory, promote creativity and entrepreneurship and encourage collaboration between different groups”.
In addition, the president recalled that the Diputación’s firm commitment to social welfare has resulted in direct support for more than 350 projects of a hundred third sector associations in the last three years alone.

Examples of innovative ideas

At the Forum, three associations from the province presented their social innovation projects that they are carrying out thanks to the support of the Almeria Provincial Council. The presentation of these projects was one of the activities of the forum, which also included a presentation by Resurrección Hernández, head of the Social Innovation Unit of the Diputación de Málaga, and a presentation by Pedro Martínez, director of CERMI Murcia, on ‘Innovation in care and services for people with disabilities’. The Forum closes in the afternoon with the round table ‘Innovation and social entrepreneurship.
