ADIF has begun work to refurbish the Cartagena train station with an investment of more than 5 million euros and a completion period of almost two years.

One of the big bets of the project is the creation of a canopy on the head platform to protect passengers and supply solar energy to the central building. It is a modernist building designed by Victor Beltrí, which was inaugurated in 1907, with a coffered ceiling and tiles dating from that period.

Both the passenger service lobby and the exterior will be reorganised, freeing up the façade for pedestrian use, in direct connection with the taxi rank and city bus stop.
