The Regional Ministry of Education and Sport will offer for the next academic year 2022-23 a total of 126,106 public places for the first cycle of Pre-school Education (from 0 to 3 years old), that is, 522 new school places more than in the previous academic year. In the case of Almería, this means more than 12,800 school places.
Likewise, after the accession procedure that took place in January, we have 223 centres for the 2022/23 academic year in our province. At Andalusian level, a total of 2,165 schools have been reached, both schools owned by the Junta de Andalucía as well as nursery schools and infant education centres adhering to the Family Aid Programme.
Andalusia is the fourth community with the highest enrolment rate for these pupils, reaching 48.8% in this academic year, already at pre-pandemic levels. These figures far exceed the recommendations of the European Union for 2022, which is placed at a coverage rate of over 33%. Schooling at this non-compulsory educational stage is considered essential for children’s cognitive development and has a direct impact on their future academic performance, as well as being an important measure for family reconciliation.

Submission of applications
Applications for admission can be submitted online from 1 April to 3 May, inclusive, for all children entering a nursery school owned by the Regional Government or one of the centres participating in the programme of aid to families to promote schooling at this stage, through the Virtual Secretary’s Office on the website of the Regional Ministry of Education and Sport: https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/educacion/secretariavirtual/solicitudes/.
The application may also be submitted, within the same period, in duplicate at the chosen educational centre, accompanied by the documentation indicated on the form. Previously, the centres will publish on their notice boards the number of vacant places for each of the age groups, as well as their area of influence.
Likewise, families may also request, during the same period, from 1 April to 3 May, the subsidy for socio-educational care and school canteen services in the centre for the first cycle of Infant Education (up to three years of age) that they request, in order to reinforce support to families for schooling at this educational stage.
The schools will publish the provisional list of applications on their notice boards on 9 May and a period will be open from Tuesday 10 to Monday 23 May for the presentation of allegations. The definitive lists will be published between 24 and 30 May and enrolment must be formalised between 1 and 10 June.
Pre-school education is considered a stage of an educational nature and not only a welfare stage, with voluntary schooling and organised in two cycles of three years each. In order to make it as easy as possible to reconcile work and family life, the centres that offer the First Cycle of Infant Education offer their service from Monday to Friday every non-holiday day of the year, except for the month of August, from 7.30 am to 5.00 pm and, in the case of the playroom service, until 8.00 pm.
