The Provincial Council has made all its machinery and technical assistance available to the municipalities that have suffered damage as a result of the recent rains in order to provide a rapid response and solutions to the emergency situations that have arisen. These actions are in addition to those already carried out on an emergency basis by the Provincial Council since the beginning of the storm to adapt, clean and secure the more than 1,200 kilometres of the provincial road network.
In this regard, as a result of recent damage, the Area of Assistance to Municipalities of the Provincial Council has acted on damage caused in the municipalities of Ohanes, Canjáyar, Gérgal, Sorbas, Líjar, Albanchez, Bédar, Lubrín, Sierro, Tahal, Abla, Laujar de Andarax, Alicún, Alboloduy, Alhabia, Bacares and Bayarque.
In these localities the actions have consisted of cleaning work, sealing damaged streets and roads, technical inspections for damage assessments, drafting all kinds of reports listing the damage caused and the development of technical projects to solve each case, as well as the visit of the technicians of the Urban Planning Advice Section at the request of the councils that have requested it.
The Deputy for Assistance to Municipalities, Eugenio Gonzálvez, explained that «since the first damage was caused as a result of the storm, we have been at the side of the town councils, especially the smaller ones, with the aim of fulfilling our maxim as an institution, to attend to the needs of the councils with fewer resources and to respond as quickly as possible to this type of unexpected situation».
Gonzálvez also pointed out that the damage was extensive and varied in nature, and that the Provincial Council’s Municipal Assistance Department is drafting the necessary technical reports on each specific solution in order to ensure that they are as effective and comprehensive as possible in each case.
Finally, the deputy expressed his confidence that «the problems caused can be resolved as soon as possible. The local councils know that they can always count on the Diputación, as a council of councils, to offer citizens the best and quickest solution to their problems. We work to equalise opportunities between Almeria residents, wherever they live».
Continued work with machinery on the Provincial Road Network
These actions are in addition to the ongoing work that the Diputación de Almería carries out on the entire provincial road network through cleaning and maintenance to ensure the safety and communication of the 103 municipalities, more intensively as a result of recent weather phenomena that has experienced the province with rain, snow and landslides in all regions.
The most recent interventions over the last few days include those undertaken in Fiñana, Ohanes, Canjáyar, Macael, Vélez-Blanco, Vélez-Rubio, María, Bacares, Bayarque, carretera de la Univesidad and on different roads in the province such as the one in Genoveses.
Different provincial machinery has been used for these works, such as motor graders, mixed and shovel machinery, skid steer loaders and trucks. All of them have been used to clear roads, smooth roads, repair cracks or remove snow in the case of the municipalities of the Los Vélez region.
