The Californias processions give witness to the Marrajos with the Encounter this Maundy Thursday in CartagenaThe procession of Silence in Cartagena, on the night of Maundy Thursday, will bid farewell to the Brotherhood of California to hand over the baton, in the early hours of Friday morning, to the Marrajos, who take to the streets the Jesus Nazareno from the Pescadería, and the Virgen Dolorosa, from the church of Santa María, to meet, at 4.30 am, in the Plaza de la Merced.

Previously, the Cofradía Marraja will warm up with the celebration of the traditional Cabildo de las Yemas, at 16.30 hours in the Nuevo Teatro Circo, which is expected to be attended by the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, who will also participate in the dawn of the Encounter accompanying the Jesus from the Pescadería, according to municipal sources in a press release.

The following passage, the death of Jesus, will mark the day of Good Friday, which from 21.00 hours will start the procession, also marraja, of the Holy Burial of Christ, in which the local Corporation will participate, as every year, accompanying the Recumbent Christ of the grouping of the Holy Sepulchre, head of the parade.

The Purple Brotherhood will say goodbye on Holy Saturday with the procession of the True Cross, which leaves at 19.00 hours from the church of Santa María, and will be joined by the procession of the Holy Women, at 19.10 hours, from the Rectorate of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

The mourning will give way to the festivity with the procession of the Risen Christ on Sunday, which is expected to be attended by the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, and the deputy mayoress, Ana Belén Castejón, which closes the processions of passion by going through the streets of the city centre from 10.30 am and throughout the morning, culminating with the entrance of the last virgin, the Virgin of the Amor Hermoso, and the last salve dedicated to her.

Also traditional on Maundy Thursday is the procession of the Santísimo Cristo de los Pescadores de Cabo de Palos, which departs from the local church at 20.30 hours, and will be attended by the mayoress and the deputy mayor, Manuel Padín. It also revives a meeting, on the waiting dock, of the Santísima Virgen Dolorosa with Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, with collection at the Fisherman’s market after singing the salve.

On the same day, in Pozo Estrecho, at 21.00 hours, the Procession of Silence leaves from the parish church of San Fulgencio, which Ana Belén Castejón is expected to attend. Meanwhile, in El Algar, at the same time, the Maundy Thursday procession will take place, starting from the square of the Church of the Virgen de los Llanos.
