Albox Town Council filed a criminal complaint against councillor José Campoy, for the improper use of public funds to cover the costs of the lawyer for the complaint filed by Campoy himself against this newspaper, after the publication of his statement in court for the Rambla 2 case, for which the prosecutor is now asking for 7 years in prison.
The information offered at the time by La Comarca Noticias was illustrated with an image of Campoy himself, at that time acting mayor of the municipality of Albox. A news item of a judicial nature, which reported on a matter of enormous media importance and public interest, reproducing the content of a statement where Campoy derived all responsibility for the execution of the works of the illegal concreting of the wadi in Torrecillas, who at that time (March 2021) was connected to an artificial respirator, after becoming seriously ill with COVID-19.
The Albox Town Hall now sees signs of prevarication and embezzlement of public funds in this action and others (which we will be reporting on), extending the complaint to the former accidental secretary Eva Cano and her husband, the lawyer Tomás Martos Gómez, who, according to the complaint, “the decisions taken were with a strong economic content” that benefited the couple.
According to the complaint to which this newspaper has had access, “as a result of a news item published in a media outlet in the Almanzora region, Mr. Campoy decided, with public money, without informing the members of the Governing Board of the Albox Town Council, to file a criminal complaint at the Civil Guard Barracks in Albox”.
“Mr. José Simeón Campoy Fernández José Simeón Campoy Fernández on the advice of his lawyer (Tomás Martos Gómez, husband of the accidental Secretary Eva Cano), goes to the Guardia Civil Barracks in Albox on 27th March 2021 and lodges a complaint against LA COMARCA NOTICIAS because a photo of him testifying in court is published and he understands that “the photos degrade his privacy and have been taken in a place out of sight of third parties”, “the complainant feels that his reputation has been undermined and his personal data violated”, and “that the complainant’s lawyer will inform the court of this action at this hearing”.
“It is more than evident, say the Town Council, that Mr Campoy Fernández has the right to go to the courts to defend his honour, privacy and any other rights that he feels have been violated, of course, but not in violation of the law and with public funds, and worst of all, to denounce a certain journalist who in his role publishes a fully verified piece of news”.
“Mr. José Simeón Campoy, acting Mayor of the Town Hall of Albox in substitution of the elected Mayor Mr. Francisco Torrecillas Sánchez, who is convalescing due to illness, together with the Accidental Secretary Mrs. María Eva Cano Pérez, take a series of decisions, with a strong economic content for the benefit of the accused and her husband and to the detriment of the Town Hall, none of them urgent and all of them, despite their situation of “acting” without Mr. Campoy and the Secretary counting on the support of the Mayor and the Secretary. Campoy and the Secretary with the approval or knowledge of the Local Government Board”, is the headline of the complaint which puts the amount of the fees presented by the lawyer from Alboja at several thousand euros.
