The unceasing work of the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Valle del Almanzora has once again been rewarded, this time with the commitment of the Junta de Andalucía to invest three million euros for the construction of cycle lanes to connect the small villages with the Vía Verde del Almanzora.
A commitment that will allow the region to continue to be structured around the old railway line and whose execution period will take around fifteen months.
“It is a palpable reality”, says the president of the Mancomunidad and mayor of Alcóntar, Antonio Ramón Salas, who acknowledges his satisfaction “after more than a year and a half working to achieve it”. It is no small feat. The three million euro investment will allow localities such as Sierro, Suflí, Laroya and Lúcar to have lanes for sporting activities that do not pose a risk to cyclists who, throughout the year, but especially in the summer, are often seen by the dozens on the main roads of the region.
“The Vía Verde is a link between each and every one of the villages,” says Salas, satisfied that “we can talk and find valid interlocutors who transform our dreams into reality. They have done it with the Almanzora motorway, with the million-dollar investment to put an end to the water supply problem, and now with this money that will allow works to be carried out that otherwise could not be undertaken,” says the president of the supra-municipal body.
“The Mancomunidad has only paid for the project, the investment to be made is entirely money provided by the Junta de Andalucía. To give an example, a road connecting Sierro with the Vía Verde costs around 300,000 euros, something unthinkable for small municipalities.
In addition, and continuing with the example, “cyclists coming from Sierro and passing through Suflí, will find informative signs indicating places to visit or where to eat,” adds Salas.
“It’s another example of how, by working together, great things can be done. We have not yet officially communicated this to the municipalities, which we will do at the next assembly”, warns the president of the Mancomunidad, who was consulted about this news, which became known a few days ago.
The investment of the Junta de Andalucía will allow a connection with a work such as the Vía Verde del Almanzora, which involved more than 2.5 million of investment as a result of the endless optimism of those responsible for the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Valle del Almanzora.
