Huércal-Overa Town Council, through the departments of Public Safety and Education, is launching a new edition of the Road Safety Education Programme in which almost 500 pupils in the fifth year of primary school in the municipality are taking part.
This year’s special edition is back after the obligatory stop for Covid-19 and is being taken up again with special enthusiasm with the objectives of «awakening their interest in road safety, as well as making them aware of the importance of their behaviour when they are on public roads, whether as pedestrians or when they ride their bicycles or scooters, and the importance of respecting road safety rules. All of these aspects have an impact not only on them but also on their family environment», explained the mayor. Domingo Fernández.
The Deputy Chief Inspector of the Local Police, Cristóbal Artero, stressed that «the reception among the students is very positive, there is a lot of interest and also curiosity to know and be able to comply with the rules». He also thanked the schools for their work «so that we can bring road safety education to the schools» and the officers Jerónimo Asensio and Ángel Barón, who are in charge of developing the programme in this edition.
Likewise, through this programme, children are introduced to the figure, work and functions of the Local Police. The Visual Education programme has been carried out in the municipality for the last 18 years, dedicated in each of the editions to pupils in the fifth year of primary school and has already been attended by around 6,000 children.
