The prosecution has requested 19 years in prison for a man accused of attempting to murder his ex-partner and sexually assaulting her in Los Alcázares (Murcia) in 2021. The trial starts this Monday at 10.30 a.m. in courtroom 006 of the Provincial Court.
According to the prosecutor’s statement, to which Europa Press has had access, the events took place on 1 April last year, when the defendant, who had a criminal record for gender violence, went to the vicinity of his ex-partner’s home at around 6am.
Once there, taking advantage of the fact that the woman had gone downstairs to take out the rubbish before going to work, he approached her from behind and hit her on the back of the head with a thick stick about one metre long.
He then grabbed her by the wrists and started shouting at her that he had been «planning to kill her for a long time», that he was going to sleep with her until he wanted to and that he was not going to be able to tell her because he was going to «kill her».
Then, the accused, with the intention of «satisfying his sexual instincts», according to the document, began to kiss her roughly on the neck while he held her by the arms and, at the woman’s insistence that he stop, he punched her hard on the nose, causing her to fall.
While he had the victim immobilised on the floor, the defendant took out a large knife and told her that if she could not sleep with her it was time to kill her, subsequently cutting her twice in the face.
After dropping the knife on the ground, he picked up the stick used before and began to repeatedly hit her in the head while saying: «I’m going to kill you» and «I’m going to smash your skull», and the defendant even stepped on his ex-partner’s hand with force.
Due to the repeated blows, the woman became unconscious and later woke up in a more secluded place, but close to where the events took place, half-naked. The victim was able to reach her home, where her son was, to call for help.
As a result of these events, the woman suffered several fractures and injuries to various parts of her body, especially her face and hands, as well as several teeth, for which she required surgical treatment. She also had to undergo psychological/psychiatric rehabilitation, and it is not excluded that she may need further surgery and dental treatment.
In addition, the victim has intense psychological symptoms compatible with post-traumatic stress syndrome.
For all these reasons, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is demanding for the accused, in addition to a prison sentence of 19 years – 14 years for the crime of attempted murder and five years for sexual assault – the measure of probation for a period of ten years and the prohibition of approaching within 500 metres of the victim and her home, place of work or any other place frequented by the victim for a period of 20 years.
On the other hand, the Public Prosecutor’s Office demands that the defendant compensate the victim in the amount to be determined in the execution of the sentence once the injuries have healed, and 50,000 euros for moral damages.
