Too much punishment for Cantoria 2017, who this Saturday afternoon received Estepona from Málaga at the Municipal Los Olivos.
A very evenly matched game where the goal had a lot to do with the final result. Both teams went out onto the pitch aware of what was at stake. If Cantoria won, they had a foot and a half in the Copa de Andalucía. If Estepona won, they would be crowned champions.
Nothing happened on the pitch and it was the home side, who, through their vertical football, seemed to be claiming the lead. However, and as usually happens in these cases, it was the tireless Juan Carlos, who in the 44th minute of the first half, put the Malagueños ahead. But there was time for more. Guille Cruz, with an empty goal and a metre from the line, shot wide. It was easier to do that than to miss. That’s how they went to the break.
When the second half resumed, it was Cerri who could have equalised, but a last-ditch save by the red defence sent the ball into the corner. Little by little and pushed by their fans, the Aurinegros pushed forward their lines and put everything they had on the pitch.
In stoppage time, with seven minutes of extra time granted by the referee and with the home side in the opposition half, Moha received a ball on the left and crossed for debutant Yousuf to score at his leisure and bring the game to a close.
Nothing to reproach Cantoria, who gave everything they had, with many casualties in the squad.
They still hold on to seventh place pending the result this Sunday between Berja (8th) who host CD Rincón (6th).
