Throughout the weekend the best national tennis has shone in Albox with the celebration of the 42nd IBP National Open, which has become one of the main events for this sport in the province and beyond the borders of Almeria. The tournament was supported by the Diputación de Almería and the town council, among other collaborators.
The competition, which was held on the courts of the Club de Tenis Albox on 3, 4 and 5 June, is part of the IBP Tennis National Circuit held throughout the Iberian Peninsula in the Absolute Men’s category, supported by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation.
The 42nd edition of one of the longest-running tennis tournaments in the country went to Carlos García Villanueva who beat Charlie Penman 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
At the presentation of the event, the Deputy for Sports, José Antonio García, congratulated the organisers and the town council for their commitment to making a new edition of this event a reality, one of the most eagerly awaited in the Almeria calendar for this sport, and showed his confidence in “the enjoyment of the public and participants of this sport which has so many positive values and which so many people practice in the province”.
For its part, from the Board of Albox Tennis Club have shown their gratitude to the “City Council of Albox and, on behalf of Virginia Saez to continue supporting quality tennis in our town by the hand of Albox Tennis Club and also want to thank the Diputación Provincial de Almería and, on behalf of José Antonio García to continue betting on the sport of Almeria and in particular that of our people with so much tennis tradition.
