It is made up of a team of 463 people, 14 heavy vehicles and 4 air assets.

The acting Government Delegate of the Junta de Andalucía in Almería, Aránzazu Martín, chaired the meeting of the Provincial Committee of the Infoca 2022 Plan held at the Government Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía. The meeting was attended by the delegate for Sustainable Development, Raquel Espín, and the deputy director of the Provincial Forest Fire Operational Centre, Francisco Alcocer. In the Committee Martín highlighted “the important work carried out by the workers of the Infoca Plan, whose expertise and effort are key throughout the year fighting to prevent fires”. In addition, the acting government delegate thanked “the involvement of all the organisations in the fight against forest fires”.

“We want to involve the public in the protection of the natural environment of Almería, as more than 90 percent of forest fires are caused by negligence or intentional actions,” Martín explained. In manual preventive actions, work has been carried out on 306.8 hectares, reducing the load and modifying the structure of fuels around roads, forest tracks and public use areas, to prevent the spread of possible fires and facilitate the entry of material resources, thus increasing the safety of workers.

Equipment

In this year’s campaign, the main novelty in terms of material resources is the incorporation of the last of the five fire engines that were part of the 32 units acquired by the Junta de Andalucía in 2020. In Almeria, for the 2022 campaign, there are 12 heavy firefighting vehicles and 2 wet trucks. In addition, there is a Mobile Meteorology and Transmissions Unit to support the constitution of the Forest Fire Command Post. In this high-risk campaign, 463 people will form part of the Operational Forest Fire Fighting Service.

The external contribution to the Infoca contingent is 2 doctors and nurses from the Forest Fire Medical Units, as well as 16 agents from the aerial resources.
